2018 Christmas・2018年のクリスマス

My Christmas weekend this past year was far less romantic than last year, but still fun, so I can't complain. On the 22nd, I went to a piano Christmas concert in the afternoon and a house party later that evening. The concert was held at Osaka Symphony Hall. It was my first time to go there. The music brought back nostalgic memories of my Christmases back home with my family in Chicago. The party at my friend's house was a lot of fun too! A big group of my friends got together and ate lots of food, played games and did a gift exchange. I'm so grateful for the friends I've made here in Japan. I always have so much fun with them.
この間のクリスマスは昨年（２０１７年）のクリスマスほどロマンチックではなかったが、それでも楽しかったです。２２日の昼に、仲のよい友達とピアノコンサートへ、夜はほかの友達のアパートで行われたクリスマスパーティーに行きました。昼のコンサートは大阪のSymphony Hallで行われました。そこに行くのは初めてでした。流れてくる音楽が懐かしくて、シカゴにいる家族と過ごしたクリスマスを思い出しました。友達のクリスマスパーティーもものすごく楽しかったです。大人数の友達と集合して、たくさん食べて、ゲームもして、プレゼントを交換しました。日本で作った友達に感謝しています！皆と一緒にいるといつも楽しい時間が過ごせます！
On the 23rd, I met up with some friends who share my love of Korean food, culture and language. They had me wear a deer hat as we walked around Shinsaibashi. I got to be the group's temporary mascot character. I was the only one wearing a festive costume, but I don't mind standing out, so it was okay. We went to a trendy Korean Restaurant not too far from Dotonbori and ate Korean Ramen with lots of tasty side dishes. Naturally, we also enjoyed some girl talk. The next time we meet, we're going to have a sleepover at a love hotel! I've always wanted to have a girl's night at a love hotel, so I'm pretty excited. It should be an interesting experience. ２３日は韓国語と韓国文化と韓国料理が好き同士の別の友達のグループと心斎橋に遊びに行きました！皆が私に鹿のカチューシャを被られて、そのまま心斎橋をぶらぶらしました。少しの間、グループの短期間のマスコットキャラになりました。仮装をしていたのは私だけでしたが、目立つことがあまりかまわないから、大丈夫でした。道頓堀の近くにあるおしゃれな韓国料理のレストランに行って、おいしい韓国ラーメンとおかずをたくさん食べました。ガールズトークもいつも通りに盛り上がりました。この日も、女子会をすることに決めた日でした。それも、ものすごく楽しくて、ここをクリックしたら、それについて読むことができます。
On Christmas Eve, I wanted to go on a date, but my plans fell through. Luckily, some close gal pals invited me to hangout in Korea Town. We ate soooooo much delicious Korean food. I'm pretty sure I had a giant food baby by the time I was done. Afterward, we went to the German Christmas market in Umeda, but it was so crowded that we could barely move, so we left after like 20 minutes. Finally, to end the night, we went to a Japanese restaurant called an "Aiseki". At this kind of restaurant, girls can eat as much as they want for free, and guys have to pay a little extra. I was only interested in the food though, so before going, I told my friends I would purposely pretend like I couldn't speak Japanese, so that guys wouldn't bother me. This plan completely backfired though. My pretending not to speak Japanese became the main talking point and entertainment, especially when I revealed that I could in fact speak the language. All in all, it was fun though. My friends all got a kick out of me pretending to have a heavy "American accent" and speaking super broken Japanese.
クリスマスイブはデートに行きたかったけれど、結局行かなかったのです。その代わりに、仲のよい女友達が一緒に鶴橋のコリアタウンに遊びに誘ってくれました。またおいしい韓国料理をたくさんたくさん食べました。食べ終わったら、梅田にあったドイツ・クリスマスマーケットに行きましたが、人が多すぎてなかなか動けなかったから、２０分後に出ました。最後は、おっしゃれなレストランに行きました。こういう店は女性が無料で食べ放題ができ、男性は普段の店より少し高い金額を払わなければならない店です。でも、男の人より、食べ物を期待していたから、事前に友達に「男とあまりしゃべらなくてもいいから、わざと日本語のわからないふりをするよ。」と言いましたが、この作戦は大失敗でした。なぜかというと、その日本語のわからない外国人の役をしたら、逆に会話が弾みました。特に、日本語がわかることがばれたときに会話がもっともっと盛り上がりました。笑！ものすごく楽しかったです。友達も私の片言しか喋れないアメリカ人のアクセントが面白いと言ってくれました。
On Christmas Day, I had to work. BUT! My coworker and I decided that since it was Christmas Day, we would have a Christmas Party! Since classes were over anyway, it was the perfect time to do so. The Friday before, I made an announcement in Japanese about the party to all the teachers. It was my first time speaking during the morning meeting since I introduced myself on my first day of work. My heart was pounding, but everyone was impressed. The teachers who could come to our party brought food and gifts to exchange. We played Christmas music, talked and ate. At the end of the party, we had a White Elephant Gift Exchange. It was a lot of fun! I got a cute dinosaur hand lotion and towel from it!
クリスマス当日は仕事がありましたが、同僚と決めて、パーティーを行いました！２学期の授業ももう終わったし、ばっちりのタイミングでした！パーティーの前の金曜日は、朝の朝礼で日本語で先生方の皆さんにパーティーについての宣伝をしました。朝の朝礼で声を出すのは来日した日の自己紹介以来でした。緊張してしまい、どきどきしながら、皆の前で話しました。終わったら、皆が称賛をしてくれました。パーティーに来れた先生方は食べ物や交換用のプレゼントを持ってきました。クリスマス音楽を流して、よく話し、よく食べました。パーティーが終わる直前にホワイト・エレファント・ギフト・エクスチェンジを行いました。ものすごく楽しかったのです！可愛い恐竜のローションとハンドタオルをもらいました。
As I said, all in all, I really enjoyed my Christmas Weekend. It wasn't particularly romantic, but I had a lot of fun! It was a great end to a fun year!
上にも書きましたが、改めて、本当に楽しいクリスマス週末と当日になりました。ロマンチックではなかったけれど、楽しい一年の最高の思い出になりました。
