Setsubun・節分

Hey Everyone! 皆さん、こんにちは～ I really enjoyed Setsubun this year! Setsubun is a Japanese holiday which takes place every year on February 3rd. It is a holiday to celebrate the beginning of Japanese spring, and cleanse your home and spirit. I first learned about this holiday in my high school Japanese class. I've never actually done anything special to celebrate Setsubun until this year. 今年の節分は、特に楽しかったです。「節分」とは、毎年の２月３日に行われる日本の国民の祝日です。この祝日は春の始まりを祝い、家から悪霊を追い出し、自分の魂を綺麗にする祝日です。初めてこの祝日について習ったのは高校時代でした。それ以降から今年まで、節分に特別なことをあまりしませんでした。 On the day before Setsubun, on February 2nd, I went to a Setsubun festival with several friends. We bought and ate a lot of food from the tons and tons of foodstalls lined up. My Japanese friends told me that in recent years, the foodstalls have come to have more variety. Love is Timing・恋はタイミング

“Love is timing.” I never actually believed that saying until recently. 「恋はタイミング」。最近までそのことわざを全然信じませんでした。 It’s crazy that you can fall out of love just as quickly as you fall in. 面白いことに、恋に落ちる早さと同じようなスピードで、好きだった人への興味なくなることもあります。 I never thought that was possible until I experienced it myself... そんなのはありえないと思っていましたが、自分がそういう経験し、本当にそうだということが分かりました… I guess it’s like everyone says though. “It’s not about the big gestures, it’s the little things. They add up and are what make you truly fall in love.” みんなの言う通りです。「恋愛は大きなことじゃなくて、小さなことの重なりです。その小さなことを重ねたら、恋に落ちる。」ということわざがあります。 In that same right though, little things can pile up and make you regret ever meeting someone too... でも、同じように、小さないやなことが重ねたら、その人と出会ったことを後悔してしまうこともあります… It’s weird how life works like that. Traditional Japanese New Year in Shimane・島根県で初めての伝統的なお正月

Hey Everyone! 皆さんこんにちは！ I spent a bunch of time drafting and re-writing messages to write on new years cards. I read online that it's nice to handwritten personal messages. After having my coworker revise my messages, I wrote them out on New Years cards to send out to close friends who have have done a lot for me since I moved to Japan. Once I had my cards written out, I went to the post office after work on Christmas Day, to make sure that my cards would reach my friends in the morning on January 1st. I let my friends know ahead of time, so not only was it my first time sending New Years cards, but my first time receiving them in the mail as well. It was pretty exciting! 何時間もかけて、年賀状の下書きと書き直しをして、がんばって作りました。ネットで手書きの年賀状のほうが丁寧と知り、一生懸命がんばって作りました。同僚も文法をチェックしてくれました。日本に来て以来、いろいろなことを手伝ってくれた仲の良い人達やお世話になった家族たちのために書きました。年賀状が完成したら、元日までに届くように郵便局に行って出しました。     On New Years Eve, I was grading papers, when my friends invited me to a party.
